Ely Buendia Now In Stable Condition!

The Eraserheads Reunion is all over the radio and TV. I was shocked when I found out that Ely collapsed in the middle of the Reunion concert. I want to know the details on what actually happened to him despite of knowing that he had heart surgeries and heart attacks in the past. I'd like to share this article which gives detailed information on what really happened to Mr. Ely Buendia.

Ely Buendia is in stable condition and fans of the legendary Eraserheads frontman can now have a collective sigh of relief.

"He's ok. Please don't worry," assured Pupil co-manager Day Cabuhat to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in a short text message sent last August 30. Buendia was rushed to the Makati Medical center last August 30, after reportedly experiencing chest pains while in the middle of the Eraserheads' 20-minute break during the band's highly anticipated reunion concert held at the Fort Bonifacio Global City open field in Taguig City.

According to some of the accounts given by close friends who were present backstage, Buendia reportedly collapsed and had to be put on a stretcher. In a TV interview after the concert, bandmates Raimund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala, and Marcus Adoro said that they saw Buendia being attended by paramedics with his blood pressure being chacked. Minutes later, they saw the singer-song writer being rushed to an ambulance.

Without their main singer, the three remaining band members accompanied by Ely's sister, Lally, were left without no choice but to face the thousands of fans who were anxiously waiting for the second set. They announced the concert's cancellation and asked everyone to offer a minute of silence for Buendia.

Ely had gone through heart surgery early last year after suffering a heart attack in an out-of-town gig with his current band, Pupil. But his recent health dilemma was being linked to stress and fatigue factors. Two days before the reunion concert, Ely's mother, Lisette Buendia, passed away. That combined with all the stress and pressure leading to the actual concert apparently took its toll on the enigmatic frontman. Also, on the same day of the event, the Eraserheads went to the venue to conduct a sound check and a final rehersal which reportedly lasted until 3 a.m.

A close friend of the band theorized that Ely's unstable emotional state combined with the stress of having to deliver in front of rabid fans perhaps overwhelmed Buendia causing his health to breakdown in the face of gnawing pressure.

Unlimited Rice Please...

DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte assured the public that there is no rice shortage yet in Davao City.

April 13, Duterte in his famous Sunday program aired over a local national TV network said that he would surely prevent traders from transporting the supply of rice out of the city.

The mayor added there is no need for people to hoard and that is exactly what the government is trying to prevent from happening with the imposition of limits on the purchase of NFA rice.

The mayor remains optimistic that the shortage of rice will not be felt in the city due to the extra supply of National Food Authority (NFA) rice.

“If there will be shortage I assure the people that in a soonest time possible it will return to normalcy", said Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

If there are calls to limit the servings of rice in food chains, not in Davao city where "unlimited rice" is still being offered at restaurants or at an “eat-all-you-can” promo.

The Philippines has the vast potential to attain rice self-sufficiency if all land suitable is used to plant rice under the best technological and farm management conditions. There are fears that the rice shortage could worsen in the coming months.The government has warned rice hoarders that they would be given life imprisonment if found guilty - underlining the highly sensitive nature of the issue for the authorities. But a lack of investment in the agricultural sector is raising serious questions about how the Philippines will be able to cope with its falling domestic production in the near future.

Rice Shortage in Philippines

Philippine farmers warned Wednesday that the country was facing a serious rice supply crisis, as the government signed a deal to import rice from Vietnam to boost local reserves at a time of rising prices and shrinking global stocks.

"The traders will definitely take advantage of the limited supply, while the government will be dependent on the imported rice for its buffer stock," said Jimmy Tadeo from the National Rice Farmers' Council .

The Philippines consumes about 13.1 million tons of rice annually, most of which is grown domestically. But dwindling domestic production and corruption in the rice supply chain have created a recurrent shortfall of about 10 percent. The government has to purchase about 2.2 million tons from the international market every year, making the Philippines the world's biggest rice importer.

The government plans to increase local production by planting an additional 1.5 million acres of rice during the rainy season in the country's 10 poorest provinces and another 1.2 million acres in other provinces.

Yesterday, I got home at 9:30 pm. Since I'm not yet sleepy, I turned on the computer and watched film documentaries through Youtube to learn more about it for the up coming film documentary workshop. While searching for more documentaries, I suddenly saw a very interesting link of a video entitled "Mga Batang Kayod Kalabaw"By i Witness. I don't know what I felt while I was watching it. The documentary was about Child labor, deforestation, and bribery. Those kids were supposed to be in school, not working! Should we blame their parents or the Government?
