A Forum With Aureus Solito!

The Mindanao Independent Filmmakers Circle will be presenting "Cultural Identities in Documentary Films" with the Award-winning filmmaker Mr. Auraeus Solito (Director of Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros, Tuli, Pisay) will be the guest speaker in the forum on April 26, 2008, 9am at the Institute for Indigenous Peoples Education. He will be screening his critically acclaimed documentary Basal Banar (Sacred Ritual of Truth).

The forum is open to non-workshop participants. Registration is at PhP200 inclusive of snacks and handouts. Slots are very limited. My Answer:

If I would be given a chance to be the ruler of the world, I think I would be the happiest person and I'll have to be a good model and a little bit strict but not mean and greedy so that my followers will do things as I say and obey me. Being the ruler of the world, i will not abuse my authority.

ThE ViEw FiNdEr TaLk ShOw

After dropping by Alchemy of Vision and Light, we headed for the Mix FM for the program Viewfinder where Ayyi and some of the Beam staffs will be guesting. The topic was about the projects of BEAM and techniques, materials and modules for teaching. The program took 1 hour and 40 minutes, there were still a lot of things to be tackled but the time is short.

While Ayyi and the Beam stuffs were having their talk show, me and Fern were taking pictures at Basti's Brew beside the FM station. When the program ended, everybody decided to eat at Dimsum Dinners. After that, me and my boyfriend went home already while Fern and Ayyi went to MTS and met Teng.

After the christening party of our friend's daughter, me and my sweety went to meet up with our teammates in the production at Picobello's for pizza. On our way to Picobello's, we met Ayyi at the elevator,. We ordered 2 flavors of pizza since Picobello's has a buy one take one promo on pizzas. Then Sharon and Fern suddenly came and ordered another pizza. We had a nice time with each other. We took pictures and had jokes. It was one of the best times with friends. We left the place with our tummies full...

OoOOpssss! The fun never stop! When we left Picobello's, Ayyi asked us if we could accompany her at MIX FM because she and some of the BEAM Boss will be guesting in a talk show. But since it was still early, the group decided to go and drop by AVL or Alchemy of Vision and Light the Davao Production House. Unfortunately, it was closed. So, we wasted time by taking pictures along the road and headed to Mix FM station.

BaBy ArRiAnE's CrIsTeNiNg DaY

Early this morning i was still so sleepy when the alarm rang. It's our friend Sly's daughter Arriane's christening day! I had a light breakfast and took a bath. I hurriedly dressed up because my boyfriend was down stairs already waiting for me. He doesn't wanna be late because he will be Arriane's Godfather. And so, we went to the church where the baby is said to be baptized then we went to their house and had lunch.

After having lunch, Sly and his wife offered us beers. Everybody in the group was getting drunk, so I asked my boyfriend to stop drinking before he gets drunk. My boyfriend said that he was feeling a little bit tipsy already, so we had to get going. Our friend Ayyi invited the whole teammates in the production for Pizza at Picobello's. So, we left and went to meet up with our teammates.

A SwEeT SuRpRiSe!

Just want to share 1 surprise that i made for my boyfriend. Early one morning i needed to go to Kuya Mac's office for my project presentation. I was there all alone the whole morning, I was doing my project at the same time Chatting with my boyfriend. We decided to have lunch together and asked him to fetch me in the office. Before lunch came, I made a surprise for him. I made a short video clip and posted something on the white board.

At noon time, i heard a knock on the door. It was him! Instead of letting him in, i asked him to blindfold himself. When he got inside the office, i played the video clip and took off his blindfold. He cried when he saw the video clip and the things i wrote on the white board. I'm so happy i put a smile on his face... He said he was surprised and he loves it! Oh I love you sweety!

FiLm DoCuMeNtArY WoRkShOp!

My Boyfriend's good friend Teng Mangansakan II, will be conducting a Film Documentary Workshop starting April 12 in Davao City. The Workshop will hold classes and lectures during weekends of April (April 12-13, 19-20 and 26-27). Documentary projects will be produced on May. These documentaries will be screened during the 1st Salam Mindanao International Film Festival later this year.

Canadian filmmaker Dominic Morrissette (Afghan Chronicles) will be the guest speaker of the Workshop.Morrissette is the director of Afghan Chronicles.

Regular registration is PhP1,800 but early birds will have a discounted registration of PhP1,500. Students will enjoy a further reduced PhP1,200 registration.

BuRgEr TiMe!

It was Thursday when I visited my boyfriend in his brother's office. We both have no classes during that time. We stayed there the whole afternoon playing PS2 when he suddenly became hungry, He asked me what i want for snack I said i don't know anything will do. He wanted to have pizza which is our favorite, but it will take time for the order to come so he went out and bought Hotdog burgers. When he came back, the rain suddenly fall. His brother can't come to the office because of the heavy rain. So, we ate and played PS2 the whole afternoon till evening while waiting for his brother to come. It turned out to be a date because we talked and had fun with each other. Just sharing, it's another day of spending time alone with each other. I love my boyfriend so much!

ThE "ARAW NG DABAW" CeLeBrAtIoN

The Araw ng Dabaw (Davao Day) has evolved into a celebration of the Davaoeños’ oneness. It is a vibrant feast held every March 16 and together with the Kadayawan, ranks as Davao City's biggest annual event.

Before March 16 came, I told my boyfriend that I'd like to witness the Float parade. He didn't want me to go because according to him there will be a lot of people on the street and i might get lost. He can't watch over me because he will be on the street as well because he will be taking pictures. He doesn't want to leave me alone with the crowed, he wont be able to concentrate in taking pictures for he will be worrying about me. So i decided to stay home and watch the Araw ng Dabaw Celebration on TV.

I missed the parade but at least I know and understand that my boyfriend doesn't want anything bad to happen to me. Well i guess I'll have to bring a companion next time. And besides,just by looking at my boyfriend's shots and watching TV made me feel as if i was one of those people in the crowed.

PiZzA WiTh My SwEeTaH!

Me and my boyfriend want to watch the movie "300", which according to our friends is a must seen movie. So since we both don't have classes, we've decided to go and watch the movie. We went to NCCC mall and bought our tickets, but it's too early for the next showing. We both were thinking of having pizza before going to the cinema since it's too early for the next showing.

We went to Pizza Hut and ordered our favorite family sized stuffed crust pizza. When our order came, some people were looking at us and I find it so annoying. I went to the bathroom and checked if there's a dirt on my face, but there was nothing. My boyfriend was so neat so they can't be staring at him. My boyfriend smiled and told me that maybe they were thinking if we could eat the whole thing. Hahahaha... they just don't know we can have whole family sized pizza each. We just love eating pizza so much!

My boyfriend is so into computer games, no wonder he's taking up Information Technology. He loves to play PS2, PSP and computer games. I'm not complaining though, I also love to play PS2 and PSP but it's sometimes hard to get his attention or even ask him to stop whenever he starts playing. What i do is to join him playing. Well, "IF YOU CAN'T BEAT THEM, JOIN THEM"! haha.

It's Sunday, and instead of staying home to rest for the up coming busy week, my boyfriend asked me to accompany him in the park to practice photography using his new lens. When we arrived, he took pictures of me before he started taking pictures of anything he can see there. He got nice shots of kids and family. I consider thIS day as a date for the both of us because we had lots of fun and we had the chance to spend time with each other. Its one beautiful day to be remembered. I love you sWEETY!

ThE PeOpLe'S PaRk

People's park was the former PTA Ground. It features a mini rain forest, public areas for jogging and tai chi and the like. It has a playground where your kids can have fun. The park is also equipped with CCTV cameras. According to our city Mayor, the cameras were to keep the premises secure, and to prevent “illicit activities” inside the park. Accenting the surrounding are statues by Mr. Kublai Millan a proud Dabawenyo artist. This newly reopened park is located in the heart of downtown area. The park adds to Davao City’s tourism attractions and public recreation areas! For Dabawenyo's, it is something to be proud of.

OnE NiCe ShOt!

This afternoon, me and my boyfriend stayed at the Micromedia Production Editing Office with his brother. We played PS2 while his brother was editing a wedding video. At about 7pm, we decided to have dinner at Chowking (a fastfood chain). After eating, we went to the park. They want to have a walk since we're so full.

At the park, me and my boyfriend had the chance to talk about our dreams and plans for the future. His brother was taking pictures of anything that he finds interesting. The picture above was one of his shots. Me and my boyfriend hadn't notice him taking our picture because we were so busy talking to each other. Thanks to Mac Mac for this picture! I love it!

My VaLeNTiNe!

Valentine's Day is the day whereby couples actually want to show their love one how much they love them and care about them. Yesterday, i was wondering what valentine's gift would be perfect for my boyfriend since it's our first valentine's day celebration together. I don't want to give him common valentines gifts that people usually give to their love ones. I want something unique and personalized, not one of those stuffed toys or anything that anybody can buy in the market.

So, I printed six (6) copies of his very own pop art picture and I made a paper toll out of it, I had it framed and gift wrapped. Oops! not only that, I baked homemade munchkins and placed it in a heart shaped container. Early this morning, i went to his office and placed the gifts on his table and left hurriedly so he wont see me. After about an hour, he buzzed me in yahoo messenger and told me that he was surprised. I'm so happy he liked it and appreciated it. According to him it's the best valentine's gifts ever! Ey guys, the next time you'll give a gift to friends or love ones, make your own, create something unique. They'll appreciate it much.

A NiGhT At KaNtO BaR!

Yesterday, me and my boyfriend were on our way home when his cellphone suddenly rang. It was Mr. Teng Mangansakan, he wants us to meet up with him because he wants to introduce my boyfriend to Mr. Emman Dela Cruz (one of the most famous Filipino Directors in the Philippines). Unfortunately, when we arrived Mr Emman Dela Cruz had already left.

We stayed there and had a chit chat with Mr. Teng Mangansakan with regards to the pre-judging of the film entries of November. According to him, the competition is tough. Some of the judges gave us a good critic, some negative. But it's ok, my boyfriend told me that people have different point of views.

After about an hour, our friend Fern arrived. He was the editor of Mona's film. He also asked Mr. Mangansakan about the pre-judging. Suddenly, our attentions were caught by the performers of Kanto Bar. They play jazz and love songs. The girl vocalist is so pretty and has a very nice voice.

We ordered food and beer, we stopped talking about the film competition, we paid our attention to the performers and had fun. We went home at 2 in the morning.

The Kids Who's Home Are The Street

One evening, I was fetched by my boyfriend after my class. He told me that his brother and our friend Shiela invited us to go to Quezon park near the Davao City Hall to eat kwek-kwek (a street food). When we got there, Sheila gave me a pack of fresh strawberries which is my favorite fruit. While in the park, my boyfriend took pictures of us. Suddenly, street children came and were asking for strawberries. I gave them some and asked me what kind of fruit that is, i replied and said those are strawberries, they grow on cold places and are very expensive. Some of the kids liked it's taste, some don't. The kids were so cute but were so dirty. They are very jolly and made us smile. So, i asked my boyfriend to take a picture of me with the kids.

It was fun, the kids know how to pose in front of the camera. They enjoyed looking at their faces in the camera. hahahaha... when we bid goodbye, they asked for some money. I was about to give them some coins, but my boyfriends brother asked me not to. Instead, he bought food for them. We left the park carrying a nice memory and with smile on our faces. What a nice evening!

BiNiToN

Biniton is our entry for the Canadian Funded short film competition. We did the film November last year. My boyfriend Mc Robert Nacario directs Biniton. It is a story depicting the process of preparation and cooking of a dish called Biniton that is particular to the community of Saniag, Ampatuan. The process of cooking, in the eyes of an old woman, brings to life the hardships they experienced amidst armed conflict at the same time the process of preparation, through the experience of Amel, her grandson walks us through the current situation of their community. How amidst the hardships and diversity in culture they had all managed to bounce back and become united.

This film, along with six other short films from Mindanao, already had its World Premiere last December 6, 2007 7pm at Indie Sine, Robinson's Galleria, Ortigas Center in Pasig City. But the awarding will be held on March 25 this year at Cotabato City.

ThE IsLaNd HoPpInG AdVeNtUrE!

My boyfriend's former high school classmate named Apple came back from the United States. She was here for a short vacation because she was home sick. She wanted to see her close friends and meet their boyfriends or girlfriends. She invited everyone for an Island hopping at Samal Island Philippines. She paid all the expenses, all we have to do is bring our swimming stuffs.

I enjoyed the beautiful beach resorts surrounding Samal Island as well as the beautiful sceneries and views. I got to know her more, and to realize that she is so nice to be with as well as their other high school friends. It was indeed a fun trip. Before the sun set, We stayed at Costa Marina. It is one of the most beautiful resort in that island. When the night fall, we had a very cool party by the beach. We danced and drink till dawn. It was fun and very memorable.

A week after the Island Hopping, Apple went back to US. We miss her company and hope that she'll come back again!
